Football superstar Lionel Messi will marry his childhood sweetheart in his hometown in Argentina on Friday (today).
The Barcelona player is returning to the city of Rosario to wed Antonella Roccuzzo, whom he met there before he moved to Spain aged 13. Argentine newspaper ClarÃn has called it “the wedding of the year” and even “the wedding of the century.”
The pair already have two children together and have known each other since the age of five. The wedding is being billed as the event of 2017 and everyone has been clamouring to get an invitation to the ceremony in Argentina.
However, Messi has carefully picked his guests and has dealt a major snub to Barca’s rivals Real Madrid by not inviting a single player in the current squad – including Cristiano Ronaldo. The only ex-Madrista to be asked along is national teammate and Paris Saint-Germain ace Di Maria, reports La Nacion.
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will be going to the event, as will Nou Camp legend Ronaldinho. Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas and Barca pal Luis Suarez have been invited, as well as Gerard Pique and popstar partner Shakira.
