Govt draws battle line against P&ID, Negotiation option shelved

NIGERIA will go on the full offensive to fend off the $9.6 billion judgment obtained against the country in Britain by Irish firm, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID). The first leg of the action is to file a stay of execution at the court when it resumes from vacation by month end.

After this, the government will file an appeal. This new position is contrary to an earlier plan to consider entering into another round of negotiation with P&ID. Following a legal review, the government is convinced that the provision of the State Immunity Act 1978 (the Act) which bars UK courts from confiscating assets of a foreign state without the consent of that state, gives it a leeway in the matter.

Even while we were still there with you we gave you this rule: ‘He who does not work shall not eat.’ — 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (TLB)

One of the Christian’s responsibilities in following Christ is to have a new attitude toward work. So many young people want Christ without responsibility. Jesus was not a drop-out. As a carpenter, He worked hard with His hands. The Apostle Paul made tents for a living while he carried on the work that God assigned him.

And he said, “Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s. — 2 Chronicles 20:15

If life sometimes seems to be a battle that causes you to feel upset and fearful, you’ll be glad to know you were not meant to fight the battle alone. The Bible says the battle is God’s. God never loses a battle. And when you work with Him according to His plan, you won’t either.

When chastised over sin, some people are fond of saying that their conscience does not condemn them, even when they have been caught in the obvious act of sin. They may be right after all, because it’s only a conscience that is alive and active that can condemn or caution an individual engaging in things contrary to the will of God. God gave everyone a conscience to serve as an internal restraining guide regulating each of our actions. However, when a person continuously refuses to yield to its control, its voice will be silenced. In that state, such a person’s mind becomes reprobate. Describing this condition, Romans 1:28 says:

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;”
