Ecobank shuts branch in Abuja after man dies of coronavirus
Ecobank Nigeria Limited has closed its Wuse II branch in Abuja over Nigeria’s first coronavirus death. The bank said the victim, Mr. Sulaiman Achimugu, a former Managing Director of the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, visited the branch twelve days before his death.
In a statement on its verified Twitter handle, the bank said, “Nigeria, very sadly, this morning recorded its first death, which unfortunately was one of our valued customers. Our most sincere condolences to the family. “Our attention has been drawn to the fact that the deceased was at our Wuse II, Abuja Branch on 12 March 2020, twelve days ago.
COVID-19: Ayade Declares Lockdown In Cross River, Suspends LG Polls Indefinitely
Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has declared a total lockdown in the state, as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
The governor made the declaration in a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Christian Ita. “All the entry points into Cross River State (land, air, and water) are hereby locked down. Access will be based on passing a thorough screening regime,” the statement said. He also ordered the indefinite suspension of the Local Government Council elections scheduled to hold on Saturday in the state.
