Burna Boy Named as the mosts streamed artiste in sub-saharan Africa

 
 
   On the list titled “Billboard’s Top 15 Sub-Saharan African Artists” which is based on global views, Burna Boy takes the lead with 435.57 million streams, Tanzanian’s Diamond Platnumz comes in second with 291.98 million streams whiles Davido takes the third spot with 285.76 million.

  Wizkid comes 5th with 176.23million streams, Mr Eazi, Flavour, and Tekno with 153.07M, 139.68M, 130.15M respectively. Yemi Alade and Joeboy end the list with 109.55M and 106.08M respectively. Also featured on the list is Sinach, the Nigerian gospel singer who became the first African to top the Billboard USA Christian songwriters chart last month.

Federal Government declares Friday, June 12 as a public holiday

 

   The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, as a public holiday to mark the 2020 Democracy Day celebration.

  The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made this known on behalf of the Federal Government. The statement, which was signed by the Permanent Secretary in Minister of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, quoted Aregbesola as congratulating Nigerians for the entrenchment of democratic rule in the country.

Court refuses to grant forfeiture of Saraki’s Ikoyi houses

 

   The Federal High Court, Lagos, on Monday refused to grant the application of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a forfeiture Order on the Ikoyi houses of former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. The court instead adjourned till September 29 for oral evidence.

Justice Liman Mohammed who began giving judgement also stated that the EFCC has not provided any proof that the money with which the houses located on McDonald Road, Ikoyi, were bought came from any establishment related to the Kwara State Government.

Rather the Judge concluded that the Houses were purchased with a credit facility granted Saraki by the Guaratee Trust Bank (GTB).

It will be recalled that the findings of the court was in line with the conclusion of the Supreme Court in the Asset declaration case involving Dr. Saraki in which the same property were the subjects.

The Federal High Court also stated that the matter before him were not criminal in nature like the Supreme Court case under reference.

President of Taraba customary court abducted by gunmen

   

   The President of Taraba customary court, Justice Donatus Yantau Shidda has been kidnapped by gunmen. Eyewitnesses told The Nation that the President of the Customary court was abducted in the early hours of Monday morning, June 8, at his home in Kona area of Jalingo. His wife was reportedly present at the time of the incident. 

5 more COVID-19 deaths recorded in Edo

 

   Five more COVID19 deaths have been recorded in Edo state bringing the total number of deaths from the viral disease to 24. The state governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed this on his Twitter handle today June 8.

According to the governor, most of the deceased patients are persons above 60 years old. He also disclosed that 13 more COVID-19 patients have been discharged from the state's isolation center.

''We have recorded 5 new #COVID19 deaths, bringing the no. of fatalities to 24. 1 of the deaths is at Stella Obasanjo Hospital and 4 at

Abia Governor Ikpeazu Tests Positive To COVID-19, Goes Into Isolation

 
 
  The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has tested positive to COVID-19, and has gone into isolation.

  This was revealed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Abia State, John Kalu on Monday. The statement noted that Governor Ikpeazu had sent his sample for a COVID-19 test on May 30th and had directed members of the State Executive Council (EXCO) and the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to do the same.

  According to the statement, the Governor’s first test result returned negative on Tuesday, 2nd June 2020. The Commissioner, however, said that the Abia leader did another COVID-19 test on Thursday, 4th, June 2020 with the sample returning positive.

  “As a result,” the statement added, “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has gone into isolation, as required by relevant NCDC protocols, and he is being managed by a competent team of medical practitioners with a view to nursing him back to good health. “Consequent on the above, the Governor has directed his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of duties.”

  The statement, therefore, called on Abians to take the fight against COVID-19 serious and said the disease is real but not a death sentence. “Our state has the resources to manage patients back to good health,” the statement assured.

Over 1400 Boko Haram Terrorists Have Been Killed In The North East – Buratai

   Over 1400 Boko Haram terrorists have been neutralized in the NorthEast. This is one of the several successes recorded by the Nigerian military according to the Chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai.

  The Army Chief who has been with the troops on the frontline spoke to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

   General Buratai expressed joy with the morale and performance of the troops insisting that the military is determined to rid all parts of the country of terrorism and banditry.

Davido welcomes 4th child with London based lady

  Davido has allegedly welcomed a 4th child with a London based lady. According to reports, the lady -- Larissa welcomed a son in march in London.

 “She gave birth to a Baby boy since March. Her name is Larissa, a makeup artist based in London” a source said. This comes months after he welcomed his first son and third child with his Igbo fiancee, Chioma Rowland.
