Taking to Twitter, the woman known as Shirley revealed that they met four years ago at a wedding. She had apparently been standing at the occasion and her legs began to hurt, so he allowed her to sit on his lap, thereby easing her pain. According to her, that singular act was what endeared her to him, and they have been together eve since. She wrote:

Resident Doctors To Begin Nationwide Strike On Monday

 


    The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has directed its members across the country to embark on a total strike from Monday, August 2. This directive was issued on Saturday at the end of the executive meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

    Briefing reporters at the end of the meeting, NARD National President, Dr Okhuaihesuyi Uyilawa, disclosed that members have been asked to proceed on a nationwide indefinite industrial action. “We are embarking on a total and indefinite strike on August 2, 2021. You can recall we had a memorandum of action on March 31, 2021, and had an addendum to it on April 9, and since then, we still have had irregularities in the payment of salaries to the house officers. “We had issues with them being non-regular payment and as part of the memorandum of action, it was said that they should be captured back into the IPPS platform,” he said.

     Popular South African actor and filmmaker, Shona Ferguson, has died.  The 47-year-old Rockville actor and husband to producer and actress, Connie Ferguson, died at Milpark Hospital on Friday, July 30, due to Covid-19 related complications. A statement from his family reads:

Two men bag six months imprisonment for giving false info to EFCC operatives

     


   The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on July 30, 2021 secured the conviction of the duo of Tijjani Haruna and Abdullahi Ahmed to six months imprisonment before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on separate one-count amended charge of giving false information to operatives of the Commission. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 139 and 139 (a) of the Penal Code Laws of Borno State.

  The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says the Federal Government is not aware of any $875 million ammunition deal with the US which is being purportedly obstructed by some lawmakers in the States. Mr. Mohammed stated this while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Abuja. According to him, there is no contract of such nature and sum between Nigeria and the US.

   According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of California, Abba Kyari, a was one of six people indicted over an elaborate scheme to defraud a Qatari businessperson of more than $1 million, masterminded by Hushpuppi. While defending Kyari on social media, FFK said Kyari is a super cop that has risked his life protecting Nigerians from murderers and terrorist. EFCC arrests 55 Internet fraudsters in Enugu

   


   Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested 55 suspected internet fraudsters in separate operations in Enugu and Ebonyi States.

   A statement released by the antigraft agency says eighteen of the suspects were arrested on July 29, 2021, at Agbani Road and Thinkers Corner areas of Enugu, Enugu State following intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet fraud.

Unknown gunmen kidnap night club operator in Bayelsa

     


   Unknown gunmen have abducted the proprietor of a popular nightclub in Yenagoa, Bayelsa capital, Mr Tari Ajanami.

   The News Agency of Nigeria ((NAN) learnt that Ajanami, who also works as a cash officer with a commercial bank, was at his building site to pay workers when the gunmen swooped on him and whisked him away.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has told a court that only three associates of Yoruba nation advocate Sunday Igboho are in its custody. This is contrary to 12 people named in a suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja by some lawyers including Pelumi Olajengbesi and Allen Sowore, after the raid of Igboho’s Ibadan (Oyo State) residence on July 1.

CBN to refund N35m capital deposits to BDC applicants

 


   The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday says it will start immediate refund of capital deposit to Bureaux de Change (BDC) promoters with pending applications.

  According to a circular signed by Ibrahim Tukur for the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department of the apex bank, this is in furtherance of the decision to discontinue allocation of Foreign Exchange (FX) to BDC operators. Tukur urged eligible promoters of BDCs to forward their application for refund in writing to the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department of the CBN.

US Court Issues Arrest Warrant For Abba Kyari

   


    A US court has issued an arrest warrant for a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari over his links to alleged fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

   The arrest warrant was issued by a U.S magistrate judge, Otis Wright, a spokesperson in the United States Attorney’s Office confirmed to Channels Television. According to documents unsealed this week in the US, Mr Kyari had arrested and jailed one Chibuzo Vincent, at the behest of Hushpuppi.

Buhari Pledges To Increase Education Budget By 50% In Next Two Years

 


 

    President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to increase education budget by 50% in the next two years. The president made the pledge on Wednesday a the ongoing Global Education Summit in London, United Kingdom. The commitment was contained in a document titled, ‘Heads Of State Call To Action On Education Financing Ahead Of The Global Education Summit’.

Court adjourns murdered Enugu make-up Artist trial to August 25

 


    Justice K.I Okpe of Enugu State High Court has adjourned the case of Ijeoma Nneke, the makeup artist murdered in the state when she was called for a job to August 25th, 2021.

   The prosecuting counsel, Ngozi Ikem Okoye from Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, sought permissions from the court to enable her correct the typo on their charges and also file a motion that will enable come up with more witnesses into the matter.

  The defense Counsel, Chuma Oguejiofor argued that calling of new witnesses is not necessary as the matter has not been entered properly by the court. The suspects were in court but the judge, Justice K.I could not take plea on the matter and subsequently, adjourned to August 25th, 2021 for commencement of the case.

JUST IN: Despite Order, DSS Fails To Produce Igboho’s Detained Aides In Court

   


    The Department of State Services (DSS) has defied a court order to produce the 12 detained aides of Yoruba-nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo,  popularly known as Sunday Igboho. Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the DSS to produce in court on July 29, the 12 aides who have been in their custody since July 2, 2021.

   Their case was expected to proceed regardless of the annual court vacation slated to begin on July 26. But since the DSS failed to bring the aides before the court on Thursday, the case has stalled yet again, with Justice Egwatu now issueing another order, asking the DSS to produce the 12 aides in court on Monday, August 2. While giving the order, he stressed that when a court of competent Jurisdiction, gives an order, such must be respected and obeyed.

Five corps members died in fatal accident

   


Five corps members reportedly died in a fatal accident along the Abaji-Kwali expressway on Wednesday July 28. A statement released by the NYSC scheme says the unfortunate incident occurred around 2pm.

Trafford General Hospital set ablaze by lightning strike

 


  Patients and staff had to be evacuated from Trafford General Hospital in Greater Manchester after a lightning strike caused fire to break out at the hospital. The blaze erupted during a freak storm on Wednesday afternoon, July 28.

10 Nigerian Athletes Banned From 2020 Tokyo Olympics

   


    Ten Nigerian athletes have been declared ineligible to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Wednesday.

AIU, an independent body created by World Athletics to manages all integrity issues – both doping and non-doping, noted that eight athletes from other countries were also declared ineligible while two others were replaced prior to the submission of their entries to World Athletics.

It explained that the affected athletes, who represented some ‘Category A’ Federations, were disqualified from the final entries for the Olympics for failing to meet the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 of the Anti-Doping Rules.

This comes in spite of the improvements in the domestic testing programmes in various countries. Part of the statement read, “Under the framework of Rule 15 governing National Federation Anti-Doping Obligations, which came into force in January 2019, National Federations are accountable for ensuring appropriate anti-doping measures are in place in their respective jurisdictions.

“Among other things, the Rule sets out minimum requirements for testing on the national teams of ‘Category A’ federations deemed to have the highest doping risk and considered as a threat to the overall integrity of the sport.

Supreme Court Upholds Akeredolu’s Victory

   


     The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the re-election of Rotimi Akeredolu as Governor of Ondo State. Akeredolu’s victory was affirmed after four of the seven justices of the Supreme Court that heard the case upheld his candidacy in the October 10, 2020 election in the state.

   Three other justices disagreed with the majority judgement, insisting that Akeredolu’s candidacy in that election is a nullity.

BREAKING: Court Frees El-Zakzaky And Wife

   


    A Kaduna State High Court has freed the embattled leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife.

   In a ruling that lasted over eight hours, the presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada upheld the no-case submission filed by Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife in an alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace levelled against them by the Kaduna state government. The judge in his ruling held that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants.

'I rejected Real Madrid' - Juventus coach, Max Allegri

 


     Juventus coach, Max Allegri has revealed he turned down the chance to manage Real Madrid in order to have a second spell in charge of Juventus. Allegri was unveiled as Juventus manager for the second time on Tuesday, July 27, returning two years after he departed.

   The club had hired Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo since Allegri's departure but none have been able to perform well at the Allianz Stadium dugout. Tight Security As El-Zakzaky’s Trial Continues In Kaduna

   


    There’s heavy security presence at the Kaduna State High Court on Wednesday as the court prepares to deliver judgement on the no-case submission filed by the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

   The case is presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada. El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenah Ibrahim are standing trial in the court for the past four years on an eight-count of alleged culpable homicide, disruption of public peace and unlawful Assembly among others levelled against them by the Kaduna state government.

I fled Nigeria to avoid being killed- Igboho

   


   Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho who is standing trial in the Benin Republic has told the court that he fled Nigeria to avoid being killed.

   The Yoruba Nation agitator, who was arrested on July 19 with his wife while attempting to travel to Germany, has been charged with illegal entry into the Benin Republic. He is also explaining his mission in Cotonou, the Benin Republic capital. The court ruled that he should be relocated to prison from police custody.

Katsina assembly approves President Buhari’s village to a district

   


    Elevation of Dumurkul, the village of President Muhammadu Buhari, to a district in Daura emirate has been approved by Katsina House of Assembly. 

   Dumurkul district was carved out of Koza District in Maiadua Local Government Area, as approved by the Governor after the need arose, in accordance with section 7 (1)(2) of the Local Government Act (2000) as amended.

Kaduna State is working closely with Nasarawa government to rescue kidnapped monarch - El-Rufai

   


Kaduna state government has said that it is working with Nasarawa State Government and security agencies to rescue the paramount Ruler of Jaba Jaba Chiefdom, Gyet Muade, who was kidnapped by gunmen in Nasarawa on Monday July 27. 

   The Monarch was abducted while on his farm located at Gitata community of Nasarawa state, which shares a boundary with Jaba in Kaduna state.

Central Bank of Nigeria Bans Sale Of Foreign Exchange To BDC Operators

 


    The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced an end to the weekly allocation and sale of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in the country.

   CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, made the announcement on Tuesday while briefing reporters on the outcomes of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

   “In total disregard of the difficulty that the (apex) bank is facing in meeting its mandate of maintaining the country’s foreign exchange reserves to safeguard the value of the naira, we have continued to observe that stakeholders in some of the sub-sectors have not been helpful in this direction,” he lamented.

Ebonyi Chief Judge frees 12 inmates of Afikpo Custodial Centre

   


    The Chief Judge of Ebonyi, Justice Elvis Ngene, on Tuesday at Ukpa, Afikpo in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi released 12 inmates of Afikpo Custodial Centre during a jail delivery. Ngene said the goal of the delivery was in exercise of powers conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution as amended which was aimed at decongesting the custodial centre.

Passengers Who Abscond From Quarantine Risk Prosecution, FG Warns

   


The Federal Government has vowed to sanction returning passengers who abscond from quarantine facilities, including possible prosecution of such individuals.

   Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, believed such persons constitute a major risk to the country’s health system. He raised concerns over reports from port health officials that some passengers from high risks countries have continued to abscond from facilities where they were quarantined.

Young graduate shot dead, many injured as hoodlums attack Shoprite mall in Ibadan

 


 Some hoodlums suspected to be cultists reportedly killed a fresh graduate while many others were wounded when they attacked Shoprite Mall along Ring Road, Ibadan on Sunday night,July 25. 

   A witness, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday July 26, in Ibadan that the deceased identified as Akinola Babatunde, was shot dead by the hoodlums at the entrance gate of the mall.

Killer Of A/Ibom Job Seeker Pleads Guilty To Murder

   


    Uduakabasi Akpan, who was accused of killing Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has pleaded guilty to the murder. Umoren was lured out of her home with a fake job interview, raped and killed in April in the outskirts of Uyo.

   Her remains were buried in a shallow grave in Mr Akpan’s family house where the crime took place. Uduakabasi, who was arraigned yesterday alongside his father, Frank Akpan before a State High Court judge in Uyo, pleaded guilty to murder but denied raping his victim. Frank, arraigned on a one-count charge of accessory after the facts pleaded not guilty. Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Bennett Illaumo, adjourned the case to August 18, 2021, for further hearing.

Gunmen Abduct Doctor’s Wife, Friend In Benue

 


    A medical doctor’s wife and her friend have been abducted by gunmen at the New GRA in Makurdi metropolis, Benue State.

   Witnesses said the incident happened on Sunday between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm in front of the home of the doctor’s wife’s friend. It was gathered that the wife of Dr Dzwachi, a medical doctor, working with the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, drove her friend home when the abductors struck and whisked them away.

Kaduna Kidnap: Four Additional Baptist Students Regain Freedom

 



    Four additional abducted students of Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Kaduna State have regained their freedom.

  A top official of the school told Channels Television on Monday that the four students escaped from the forest last night where they were held captive by their abductors. The latest development, therefore, brings the total number of the rescued students to 38 out of the 121 that were abducted by bandits on July 5th.

Nnamdi Kanu takes case to African Rights Commission

 


    Special Counsel to the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Mr Aloy Ejimakor has disclosed that the extraordinary rendition of his client is now a matter before the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights.

  Ejimakor said that the defendants in the petition are both Nigerian and Kenya governments, whom Kanu is asking to account for his abduction from Kenya. He disclosed that among prayers in the petition include that Kanu is restored back to his state of being, which was Kenya, before his abduction that he described as reprehensible.

UNN ASUU To Federal Government- 'Prevent Another Strike'


  The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) chapter, has advised the Federal Government to take steps to avert another nationwide strike by the union.

   The UNN chapter Chairman, Dr Christian Opata, gave the advice on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka. Opata spoke against the backdrop of the recent threat by ASUU to resume the strike suspended on Dec. 24, 2020.

Buhari Signs N982.72bn Supplementary Budget For Security, COVID-19

   



   President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill submitted to the National Assembly in June.

   Mr Umar El-Yakub, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a meeting with the President on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Act, which is targeted at the provision of military hardware and COVID-19 vaccines, comes into effect from July 26.

Trial of alleged killer Of Akwa Ibom jobseeker, Iniubong Umoren, begins on Monday

   


    The trial of Uduak Frank Akpan, the alleged murderer of Akwa Ibom job seeker, Iniubong Ephraim Umoren, will begin at the Akwa Ibom state Hogh Court 6 in Uyo on Monday, July 26.

   In a statement released by the media unit of by Effiong Edet, the information officer in the ministry of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Justice, said the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Essien Udom (SAN), will be the lead counsel for the prosecution team. Recall that Iniubong Umoren, a fresh graduate of the Department of Philosophy, University of Uyo was lured and killed after she set out to look for a job but did not return.
