Eight boat travelers abducted in Rivers

     


   Eight persons traveling via a passenger boat have been kidnapped along the Kula-Abonrma waterway in Rivers State.

   Confirming their abduction, the Rivers Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Jonah Jumbo said the victims were abducted in the morning July 19, by suspected pirates. According to Jumbo, out of the eight kidnapped persons, five were members of the maritime union in Kula, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area headed to Port Harcourt for a meeting.

Lagos records 4 COVID-19 related deaths in nearly 4 days

   



   Lagos State recorded four COVID-19 related deaths in nearly four days as confirmed by the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi. 

   Abayomi in a post shared on Facebook, said the deaths which were recorded between July 14 and July 17 increased the state’s COVID-19 related mortality to 363. Though no additional detail was given about the deceased, Abayomi disclosed that there are currently 1,045 active COVID-19 cases in communities being managed under the Home Based Care.

Matawalle, CP mourn 13 policemen

 


 Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle on Sunday in Gusau, expressed shock at the killing of 13 police officers by suspected bandits. The police personnel were gunned down at a mobile camp in Kurar Mota community in the Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.

  The governor’s reaction is contained in a statement by Malam Yusuf Idris, Director-General, Media, Public Enlightenment and Communications, Government House, Gusau. The statement said Matawalle expressed “devastation “when he visited seven injured police officers who were receiving treatment at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.

Courts Order INEC To List Soludo, Uba As APGA, PDP Candidates



   

Two courts in Anambra on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to list the names of Professor Chukwuma Soludo and Senator Ugochukwu Uba as the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively for the November 6, 2021, governorship election.

  In Professor Soludo’s case, the High Court presided over by Justice C.C. Okaa directed INEC to publish the former CBN Governor’s name which was removed from the electoral umpire’s list last Friday and replaced with that of Hon Chukwuma Michael Umeoji.

Court Grants Bail To 48 Yoruba Nation Agitators

 


 

   A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos has granted bail to 48 Yoruba nation agitators arrested and detained by the Lagos Police Command.
