Supreme Court Upholds Akeredolu’s Victory

   


     The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the re-election of Rotimi Akeredolu as Governor of Ondo State. Akeredolu’s victory was affirmed after four of the seven justices of the Supreme Court that heard the case upheld his candidacy in the October 10, 2020 election in the state.

   Three other justices disagreed with the majority judgement, insisting that Akeredolu’s candidacy in that election is a nullity.

BREAKING: Court Frees El-Zakzaky And Wife

   


    A Kaduna State High Court has freed the embattled leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife.

   In a ruling that lasted over eight hours, the presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada upheld the no-case submission filed by Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife in an alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace levelled against them by the Kaduna state government. The judge in his ruling held that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants.

'I rejected Real Madrid' - Juventus coach, Max Allegri

 


     Juventus coach, Max Allegri has revealed he turned down the chance to manage Real Madrid in order to have a second spell in charge of Juventus. Allegri was unveiled as Juventus manager for the second time on Tuesday, July 27, returning two years after he departed.

   The club had hired Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo since Allegri's departure but none have been able to perform well at the Allianz Stadium dugout. Madrid wanted to sign Allegri when Zinedine Zidane departed at the end of last season, however, he now says he rejected the chance to move to Spain in order to try and get Juve back to the top of Serie A after they lost their league crown to Inter.

Tight Security As El-Zakzaky’s Trial Continues In Kaduna

   


    There’s heavy security presence at the Kaduna State High Court on Wednesday as the court prepares to deliver judgement on the no-case submission filed by the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

   The case is presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada. El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenah Ibrahim are standing trial in the court for the past four years on an eight-count of alleged culpable homicide, disruption of public peace and unlawful Assembly among others levelled against them by the Kaduna state government.

I fled Nigeria to avoid being killed- Igboho

   


   Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho who is standing trial in the Benin Republic has told the court that he fled Nigeria to avoid being killed.

   The Yoruba Nation agitator, who was arrested on July 19 with his wife while attempting to travel to Germany, has been charged with illegal entry into the Benin Republic. He is also explaining his mission in Cotonou, the Benin Republic capital. The court ruled that he should be relocated to prison from police custody.

Katsina assembly approves President Buhari’s village to a district

   


    Elevation of Dumurkul, the village of President Muhammadu Buhari, to a district in Daura emirate has been approved by Katsina House of Assembly. 

   Dumurkul district was carved out of Koza District in Maiadua Local Government Area, as approved by the Governor after the need arose, in accordance with section 7 (1)(2) of the Local Government Act (2000) as amended.

Kaduna State is working closely with Nasarawa government to rescue kidnapped monarch - El-Rufai

   


Kaduna state government has said that it is working with Nasarawa State Government and security agencies to rescue the paramount Ruler of Jaba Jaba Chiefdom, Gyet Muade, who was kidnapped by gunmen in Nasarawa on Monday July 27. 

   The Monarch was abducted while on his farm located at Gitata community of Nasarawa state, which shares a boundary with Jaba in Kaduna state.

Central Bank of Nigeria Bans Sale Of Foreign Exchange To BDC Operators

 


    The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced an end to the weekly allocation and sale of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in the country.

   CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, made the announcement on Tuesday while briefing reporters on the outcomes of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

   “In total disregard of the difficulty that the (apex) bank is facing in meeting its mandate of maintaining the country’s foreign exchange reserves to safeguard the value of the naira, we have continued to observe that stakeholders in some of the sub-sectors have not been helpful in this direction,” he lamented.

Ebonyi Chief Judge frees 12 inmates of Afikpo Custodial Centre

   


    The Chief Judge of Ebonyi, Justice Elvis Ngene, on Tuesday at Ukpa, Afikpo in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi released 12 inmates of Afikpo Custodial Centre during a jail delivery. Ngene said the goal of the delivery was in exercise of powers conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution as amended which was aimed at decongesting the custodial centre.
