Topic: Self Seeking Not God Seeking [Andrew Wommack Devotional 9 May 2019]

John 6:26, ‘Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.’

Matthew 14:34-36; Mark 6:53-56; John 6:22-39

Jesus knew the hearts of all men and therefore, He did not commit Himself to this crowd. Just the day before, these same people tried to take Him by force and make Him their king, but He withdrew and spent the night in prayer.

This crowd looked like they were seeking Jesus, but they were actually trying to use Jesus to seek their own end. It is true that there are many personal benefits to be reaped through serving the Lord, but the benefits are never to become our object. In all things, Christ must have the preeminence (Col. 1:18).

But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. – Luke 15:20

How much love do you have for sinners?

That may sound like a strange question, but it’s one I want you to think about today. All too often, once we get saved and get our lives cleaned up a little bit, we lose our compassion for those who are still lost. We look at the drunk stumbling down the street or the guy at the office who lies to the boss and tells dirty jokes and turn up our spiritual noses.

But if we ever truly understood the heart of our heavenly Father, we’d never do that again. Jesus told a story that can give us a glimpse of that heart. It’s the story we call the prodigal son.

Keys to Successful Family (Part 4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Dear Reader,

On March 31, 2019, the world celebrated Mothers’ day. It set me thinking. Who truly are the real mothers? In this concluding segment of Family Matters for this month, we will be looking at what God’s Word has to say about the role of the mother in the home. One reason why God brought about the marital union of the man and woman was to bring forth godly seeds; and if we must have godly seeds, then we must have godly mothers. I always tell people that thieves have mothers who did not do a good job of caring for their children at the right time. I read an inscription once that says, “It is better to train a child than to repair an adult!” Children are like fresh fish, you can bend them anyway, but adults are like dry fish, any attempt to bend them will break them. A wise man once said that the greatest factory, where the most important product in the world is being made is the home. That is where children are raised.

Who then is a real mother? After the creation of woman, God rested. He was so satisfied after the creation of the woman that He ended His work. He was so convinced that He had put a seal of perfection on all His creation after she was made. Your presence as a woman therefore, whether a mother, or mother to be, you should know that your presence brings rest to the people around you.

Memorise: “The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.”- Proverbs 14:11

Read: Proverbs 1:24-33 (KJV)

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
