For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. – James 3:16

Have you ever noticed that the easiest place to remain self-centered is at home? There’s an incentive to be lovely with others, but with your family you are tempted to allow yourself more selfish privileges, as if it didn’t count there.

Before I was a Christian, I was more courteous and nicer to friends than to my own family. I was more demanding and less forgiving with those dearest to me than with anyone else.

Who is a God like unto thee . . . he delighteth in mercy. — Micah 7:18

Many people want to hear what God says just out of curiosity. They want to analyze and dissect it in their own test tubes. To these people, God may remain the great cosmic silence “out there somewhere.” He communicates to those who are willing to hear and receive Him, and willing to obey Him.

Jesus said that we must become humble as little children, and God has most often revealed Himself to the meek and the humble—to a shepherd boy like David, to a rough desert man like John the Baptist, to shepherds watching their flocks, to a girl named Mary. How does God speak? How can a blind man see? How can a deaf man hear?

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12 KJV

Until you recognize the enemy you are fighting with, you cannot effectively engage him. If you cannot recognize the enemy’s modus operandi, you won’t know what you’re fighting. And that already spells defeat for you ever before the battle starts, but understanding will make you win the battle even before the battle starts

The real warfare we are engaged with is not a battle of guns and bullets. It is not a battle of bows and arrows. It is the fight of faith. And the Bible calls it “the good fight of faith”. That sounds like a paradox! How can any fight for that matter be good! The fight is not good!

So why is this fight a good fight? The outcome of this fight is already determined and settled! It is already determined that you are winning. It is a settled issue. You are already a winner based on what Christ did for us. Christ secured our winning position ever before we came on the scene. It is a good fight! And it is already determined!
