Lagos Health Commissioner, Abayomi clarifies reports of testing positive for COVID-19

 

  The Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi has refuted reports claiming he tested positive for coronavirus.

Abayomi urged people of the State and Nigerians to disregard the reports which he described as fake and misleading.

In a series of tweets, the Commissioner said the reports were circulated to create panic and unnecessary anxiety among people of the State.

He tweeted: “#COVID19Lagos News AlertSpeaker with three sound waves.

“I hereby implore the general public to disregard the fake and misleading news circulating in the media to the effect that I have tested positive to #COVID19 infection.

“It is evident that the fake news is calculated at causing panic and unnecessary anxiety amongst the populace.

“I therefore urge the public to disregard any news on #COVID19 that does not emanate from @followslasg official communication channels and other verifiable sources.

“Remain vigilant and continue to play your part as responsible citizens in curtailing the spread of #COVID19 in our communities.”

Nigerian/British rapper Ben Chijioke dies from Coronavirus

 
Nigerian British artist and Mercury Prize-nominated rapper based in the U.K, Ben Chijioke has passed away from complications due to the novel coronavirus.

   Chijioke, died on Thursday after contracting pneumonia while in recovery, according to a GoFundMe previously set up for him.

  "It is with much sadness that I have to report the passing of Ben Chijioke, better known as TY Chijioke on the 7th May 2020, close friends, family and fans are devastated of his death," an update for the campaign read.

Pregnant woman allegedly stabs husband to death in Nasarawa

 
A 22-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs Veronica Boniface, has reportedly stabbed her husband, Mohammed,  to death over suspicion that he was making a phone call to his girlfriend.

  The Commandant of the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr Mahmud Fari, said in Lafia that the woman was arrested in the Obene area of the Keana Local Government Area of the state following an intelligence report.

   According to him, medical examination conducted on the suspect indicated that she is in good condition. Fari said as soon as the command complete its findings, the suspect would be prosecuted in a competent court in the state.

Fresh lockdown- Federal Government warns

   The Federal Government has warned of a possible fresh lockdown of the country over the violation of the guidelines on the ease of the lockdown in the country.

    The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja, at the 27th joint national briefing of the committee. According to him, Nigerians must continue to respect and follow all the guidelines instituted, failure which it may be pushed to review and possibly change them if compliance with the eased lockdown guidelines continues to be a problem.

Nigeria Records 381 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Infections Now 3,526

Nigeria has recorded 381 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 3,526.

   

   The Nigeria Center for Disease Control(NCDC), confirmed this in a tweet on Thursday. This is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day in the country.

  Of the new cases, 183 are in Lagos, 55 are in Kano, 44 in Jigawa while 19 each are in Zamfara and Bauchi. 11 are in Katsina, nine in Borno, eight in Kwara, seven in Kaduna, six in Gombe, five in Ogun, four in Sokoto, three in Oyo and in Rivers, two in Niger and one each in Akwa-Ibom, Enugu and Plateau states.
