Buhari names Dongban-Mensem as president of Appeal court

   
 

   President Muhammadu Buhari has named Monica Dongban-Mensem as substantive President of the Appeal Court in Nigeria.

  Buhari made the move after coming under intense criticisms from Nigerians including a retired colonel, Abubakar Umar. Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, announced the nomination in a statement on Monday. 

  According to the statement, Buhari had sent Dongban-Mensem’s name to the Senate for confirmation. He said her nomination followed the recommendation of the National Judicial Commission in line with the provisions of the constitution.

Six NDDC Staff Test Positive for COVID-19

 

  Six staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

  The commission disclosed this on its Twitter handle yesterday. The six staff were said to be attached to the office of the Executive Director (Projects), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, But Ojougboh was said to have tested negative for the disease.

  “As NDDC headquarters staff undergo isolation and Covid19 screening, six of 33 staff members in the Office of the Executive Director (Projects), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, have tested positive to Covid-19. However, Ojougboh tested negative,” the tweet read.

   Earlier, the headquarters of the agency was shut down after the confirmation that Ibanga Bassey Etang, one of its directors, died from complications of COVID-19.

Nigeria Records 315 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Infections Now 12,801

 


   The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 315 new positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

NCDC disclosed this in a tweet on Monday night, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 12,801.

According to the health agency, Lagos State recorded the highest number of infections for the day in the country with 128 cases while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State had 34 and 32 cases respectively.

A further breakdown of the new cases showed that Edo State has 28 infections, Oyo (22), Kaduna (20), Gombe (13), Ogun (8) and Plateau (5).

Others are Delta (7), Kwara (7), Kano (5), Bauchi (4), and Katsina (2).

Of the number of positive cases in Nigeria so far, 4040 persons have fully recovered and have been discharged while 361 persons have died.

Burna Boy Named as the mosts streamed artiste in sub-saharan Africa

 
 
   On the list titled “Billboard’s Top 15 Sub-Saharan African Artists” which is based on global views, Burna Boy takes the lead with 435.57 million streams, Tanzanian’s Diamond Platnumz comes in second with 291.98 million streams whiles Davido takes the third spot with 285.76 million.

  Wizkid comes 5th with 176.23million streams, Mr Eazi, Flavour, and Tekno with 153.07M, 139.68M, 130.15M respectively. Yemi Alade and Joeboy end the list with 109.55M and 106.08M respectively. Also featured on the list is Sinach, the Nigerian gospel singer who became the first African to top the Billboard USA Christian songwriters chart last month.
