Missing 3-week-old returned home after kidnapping: JPSO

A 3-week-old boy was found in good condition and reunited with his mother Sunday (Dec. 18) after his father took him, threatened to kill the infant and said he would return the child only if the mother drops pending domestic violence charges against him, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said. Authorities are still searching for the 24-year-old father.

Authorities issued a news release Sunday just before 5 p.m. announcing that the baby, Kingston Davis, was located in good condition. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the father, Cameron Davis.

On Saturday, authorities said Davis, 24, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the mother before leaving with the infant on Friday. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand issued an Endangered Child Alert at around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Davis told the mother that if she sent the police for him, he would use the child as a shield, eventually admitting he would kill the infant before being taken into custody, according to the news release. The mother also told investigators that Davis had contacted his mother in Texas and that he purchased a bus ticket to Houston.

The incident stems from a visit that Davis made on Friday to the home of the child's mother. At some point during the visit, an altercation took place between Davis and the mother. Soon thereafter, Davis took the infant and left the home for a short time, the sheriff's office reported. He returned a short time later with the handgun and threatened the mother, the authorities said. He then fled in a vehicle driven by an unknown person.

The mother made contact with Davis Saturday. During the conversation, Davis stated that he should have killed the baby while the mother was pregnant, making reference to an earlier domestic violence altercation, the sheriff's office reported in the release. It was then that he demanded that the mother drop the domestic violence charge.
