EID-EL-KABIR: Federal Government Declares July 20 And 21 As Public Holidays

 


 

   The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 20, and Wednesday, July 21, 2021, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

   The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulates all Muslim faithful and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion.

    The House of Representatives has stepped down the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill after an hour-long closed-door session. Further deliberation is expected to hold over the decision while the House is on recess.

At Least 42 Dead In Germany As Storms Ravage Europe

   



    Heavy rains and floods lashing western Europe have killed at least 42 people in Germany and left many more missing, as rising waters led several houses to collapse on Thursday. Unusually heavy rains also inundated neighbouring Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Belgium, where at least four people were reported dead.

Why we break into hotel rooms with naked women in Lagos – EFCC

   



   EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwajaren, told The Punch that the commission has observed that some of its targets use naked women as shields during raids, hence the operatives often move in nonetheless to prevent them from destroying evidence.

    On Tuesday, Peoples Gazette reported that dozens of hotel guests were left traumatised after EFCC operatives breached their privacy in the early hours of the day at Parktonian Hotel in Lagos.

   They told the publication that some guests were naked when the agents who claimed to be on a manhunt for suspected internet fraudsters broke in and prevented them from dressing up before being interrogated. “They broke into the hotel and threatened to shoot the receptionists and management if they didn’t immediately release the master access card to them. So the hotel workers had to comply immediately,” an eyewitness said.

Nnamdi Kanu needs his doctors- IPOB

   




 The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has raised the alarm over the alleged refusal by the Department of State Services, DSS, to allow its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, see his doctors. IPOB has therefore warned that if the Federal Government allows its leader to die in DSS custody following its refusal with its security agency to allow him to see his doctors, IPOB will bring down Nigeria and the consequences of what they will do in Nigeria can only be better imagined.

EFCC unveils new App “Eagle Eye” to aid whistle-blowing

   


   An application (App) “Eagle Eye” to aid whistleblowing was launched yesterday by Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) Executive Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, who said the game was over for corrupt elements.

   According to him, the App, which he described as the first of its kind in the country by any law enforcement agency, was designed to ease the process of reporting economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.

   Bawa, said the App was conceived, designed and developed by the ingenuity of a staff of the agency. He said the initiative was a clear demonstration of his pledge on assumption of office, to run an agency that is technology-driven. Bawa said: “The Eagle Eye represents a new experience in information sharing and crime reporting between the public and the EFCC.

COVID-19 Delta Variant: Don’t Travel For Sallah, NCDC Warns Nigerians

 


  The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has warned Muslims to shelve plans of the usual Eid-el-Kabir celebrations travel next week. NCDC Head of Risk Communications Division, Dr Yahya Disu, handed down the warning on Wednesday during Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast show.

   Disu pointed out that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic started in Nigeria because people travelled for Christmas last December. He, therefore, urged Nigerians to avoid unnecessary trips as Sallah celebrations hold next week.

   Disu said, “More importantly, Sallah is coming when people just travel and that makes the risk higher in villages, in different parts of the country. So, we need to warn people: they don’t need to travel if it is not necessary, you can celebrate where you are. During Sallah, we go to mosque in large numbers but this is the time we need to be very cautious.

COVID-19: UNILAG Asks Students To Vacate Hostels

   


The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has ordered students to vacate hostels on campus over fears of COVID-19.  There were fears in the university community on Tuesday after a number of students contracted the disease. The development led the school management to convey an emergency Senate meeting on Wednesday.

   In a statement issued after the meeting, the Senate said the students who tested positive for the disease, are being treated, and contact tracing already in place. “The situation is, indeed, worrisome especially noting the reluctance of the majority of students to comply with the COV1D-19 prevention protocols,” the statement read.
