30-year-old Nigerian national arrested for his involvement in a romance scam appeared at the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town, South Africa on Monday, July 25, 2022.
Roland Enuwese Esosa allegedly defrauded an elderly woman he met on the dating app Tinder of R2 million. He was arrested last week Wednesday in Northgate Mall in Roodepoort, Gauteng before being brought to Stellenbosch.
He allegedly pretended to be an American engineer by the name of Larry Cole. Once Esosa had developed a relationship, he made up a story about why he needed money. The victim subsequently parted with R2 million over a six-month period.

International Criminal Police Organization popularly known as Interpol has arrested a suspected Nigerian cybercrime kingpin, James Aliyu over alleged $12 million scam in South Africa. Aliyu was nabbed in his luxury Sandton estate on Wednesday, in connection with almost R196m in alleged romance scamming and business email compromise fraud.
Reports from Times Live revealed that the Nigerian national who appeared in the Randburg magistrate’s court shortly after his arrest, is popular in South African social circles. He is also well-known on Instagram following to his lavish holidays and excessive spending on luxury items for him and his girlfriend.

Bill and Melinda Gates are now officially divorced after a 27-year marriage. The divorce between the wealthy pair, who are the co-founders of one of the world’s largest private charitable foundations, was finalized on Monday August 2nd, a court document showed.
Melinda French Gates’ petition for divorce, filed to the court on May 3, stated that the couple’s relationship was “irretrievably broken.” The divorce paperwork finalized on Monday said that she would not be changing her name and did not offer any spousal support, which French Gates said was not necessary in her original filing.
