INEC warns of fake online registration portal

     



   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians of the existence of a fake online site urging Nigerians to enroll for "voter card pvc" registration.


    This comes barely 24 hours after INEC announced the suspension of voter registration across the country. The fake online portal claimed that the Federal Government has approved PVC registration online to avoid the unnecessary crowd in the "NIMC".

Eight Million Youths Complete Voter Registration Ahead Of 2023 Elections


 

   Over eight million young Nigerians completed the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced on Monday.


   The youth demography has been touted as a major deciding factor in the upcoming elections and INEC’s figures seems to back the theory.

Umahi wins APC ticket for Ebonyi South Senatorial District

   



   Governor David Umahi has won the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ebonyi South senatorial district. The Ebonyi state Governor who contested in the election which took place at Afikpo North Local Government Headquarters on Sunday July 31, polled 250 votes to emerge victorious.

   Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Sunday hosted a crucial meeting with some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who coordinated his presidential campaign.


The meeting held behind closed doors at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Although the agenda of the meeting was unclear, it might revolve around the events that have unfolded in the aftermath of the PDP presidential primary that threaten to split the main opposition party.

Governor Nyesom Wike reacts to events that have unfolded in the aftermath of the presidential primary election

   



   Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reacted to the events that have unfolded in the aftermath of the presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


    He spoke on Friday at the Port Harcourt International Airport in the Rivers State capital shortly after he returned from a foreign trip. “I have decided to be quiet because PDP is a party I love so much,” said the governor during a briefing with reporters. “I have moved on to conclude my social contract with the people of Rivers. However, it is time to let Nigerians know the truth.”


Governor Wike faulted the speech by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on the day he unveiled Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. He also accused the former vice president of telling lies against him, as well as using some chieftains of the main opposition party to spread falsehood against his person.

Davido Calls Out INEC For Failing To Issue Certificate Of Return To His Uncle

   


    Singer Davido has called out the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for failing to issue certificate of return to his Uncle, Ademola Adeleke after winning the Osun state governorship election. He asked if INEC needs money for fuel to facilitate the issuing of the Certificate of Return.

We are still in talks with CBN over storage of election materials - INEC


 Festus Okoye, commissioner for information and voter education of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the commission is still in talks with the Central Bank of Nigeria over storage of electoral materials.


    Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Monday July 18, Okoye said the commission has never had any issue with the CBN since the partnership started, but owing to “current circumstances”, an alternative would be found. The INEC Commissioner also said that the logistics measures taken in Ekiti and Osun governorship elections will not be sustainable for the general election.

   Okoye who revealed that they employed the services of the Nigerian Air force for the logistics of the electoral materials, said there's need to have alternatives because of the huge amount of ballot papers and other sensitive materials.

Oyo Assembly Approves Bayo Lawal As Deputy Governor After Impeaching Olaniyan

    The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Bayo Lawal as the state’s Deputy Governor. Lawmakers in the state gave the approval on Monday afternoon after impeaching Rauf Olaniyan as the state’s Deputy Governor. Olaniyan was impeached by the lawmakers over allegations of misconduct.


  The decision to impeach him was reached after the lawmakers presented and considered the recommendation of the seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge, Munta Abimbola to investigate him over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. The impeachment according to the assembly takes immediate effect.

Peter Obi Can Only Be President In Igbo Land – Tinubu’s Running Mate, Shettima

 The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential running mate, Kashim Shettima, has said the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate cannot become Nigeria’s president.


Shettima said Obi can only become president in Igbo land and not in Nigeria. Appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, he explained that Obi lacked the requisite experience to rule Nigeria. He stressed that the LP’s presidential candidate lacked the structure and political base to win the 2023 election. According to Shettima, Nigeria is too big for the former Anambra State governor to handle.


He said: “The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has no political base and structure to win the next coming election in 2023. As far as I am concerned, he’s politically structureless with little or no experience to lead this country.

Court Dismisses Akwa Ibom PDP Member's Suit

   A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by some aggrieved members of Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the party over the alleged conduct of the state’s primary elections, for lack of Merit.


   Delivering judgment, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, said the plaintiffs, having not participated in the delegates’ election, lacked the right to institute the suit. He also agreed with the PDP that the plaintiffs did not exhaust the party’s internal mechanism to resolve the issue before filing the matter.

Sorting, Counting Of Votes Underway In Osun Governorship Poll

    Data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suggest that Ekiti has a total of 1,955,657 registered voters. The election is taking in 3,763 polling units across 332 registration areas in 30 local government areas of the state.

      Osun State also has three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, and 23 state constituencies. Although there are 15 political parties in the state, 15 of them are represented in the contest for the next governor of the state.

Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Disqualification Of Oyetola As Osun APC Governorship Candidate

 


 

   Justice Inyang added that the suit instituted falls outside the scope of section 87(9) of the Electoral Act and Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.


  Adeoti a chieftain of the APC was one of the aspirants in the February 19 APC governorship primary for the state but he lost the ticket to Governor Oyetola. He then filed the case seeking the governor’s disqualification through his legal team led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chiesonu Okpoko.


  In the originating summons, he prayed the court to nullify Oyetola’s candidacy on the grounds that the governor contested in the poll as a member of the party’s Caretaker Extraordinary and Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

   Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has reacted to the comment by the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, saying Labour Party people will labour to death.


Tinubu at the grand rally for the reelection of APC candidate, Adegboyega Oyetola on Tuesday, had said “they said some are in Labour, they will remain labourers till death”. The governorship candidate of the party for the Osun poll, Lasun Yusuff, also reacted to the comment.

  Kenneth Okonkwo has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He says he took the step over decision of the ruling party to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. Announcing his resignation, he wrote;

    Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education has called out leaders who have failed to be susceptible in stabilising Nigeria’s fractured polity by being inclusive.


The former minister says it is “innate dishonesty when people fluctuate their rhetorics just to suit personal interest rather than adopt a strategy for success that shapes an inclusive society.” This is coming after Aiswaju Bola Tinubu announced a fellow Muslim, Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.


Airing her opinion on Twitter, Ezekwesili wrote: “When innate dishonesty makes people fluctuate their rhetorics on Inclusion just to suit their personal interests, reasonable minds should never waste time analyzing to make sense of the nonsense. Just design a strategy for success that permanently shapes an Inclusive Society.

 Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information, says the nomination of Senator Kashim Shettima, as the running mate to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country threatens Nigeria’s unity.


In a statement on Monday, the Convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) said the APC presidential candidate’s decision could be pointers to the confirmation and actualisation of such rumours to Islamise Nigeria as a country.

APC Governors Visit Buhari In Daura, Praise Tinubu-Shettima Ticket

   


    Governors of the All Progressives Congress on Monday paid a sallah homage to President   Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura. After a closed door meeting with the President, the Governors said they were pleased with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of Kassim Shettima as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.


The Governors described Shettima as one of Nigeria’s finest. The Governors who made the trip include Aminu Masari of Katsina, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Abubakar Bello of Niger, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Simon Lalong of Plateau and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa.

Fayemi, Sanwo-Olu, Akeredolu Visit Wike In Rivers

  Three Governors of the All Progressives Congress on Friday arrived at the private residence of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for a closed door meeting.

The Governors are Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State. Also present at the meeting is former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose. The details of the closed-door meeting is not yet known but it may not be unconnected with the 2023 presidential election.
