Senate will not concede powers to Executive – Saraki




   The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki on Thursday vowed that the Senate and indeed the Legislature would not concede its powers to the Executive. This followed a Point-of-Order raised by the Deputy Leader of the Senate, Sen. Bala Na’Allah at plenary. Quoting Order 43 of Senate Standing Rule, Na’Allah said that there were media reports credited to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to the effect that the National Assembly did not possess any power to alter the budget.

UTME malpractice: ASUU wants owners of blacklisted CBT centres prosecuted

   

   The Academic Staff Union of Universities has commended JAMB for blacklisting 48 Computer Based Test centres used for the 2017 UTME. The President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi,  said on Thursday in Lagos that the owners of the blacklisted centres should also be prosecuted.

Paris Club Refunds: Bayelsa receives extra N6.6bn



     Bayelsa State Government has admitted receiving additional N6.61bn as part of its share of the first tranche of the N516.38bn Paris Club refund. The Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd.) said on Thursday in Yenagoa that the state received additional N6.61bn in March 2017.

Sokoto govt. dispatches 90 Ulamas to Saudi to pray for Buhari, Nigeria


     No fewer than 90 Islamic clerics have been sponsored by Sokoto state government to Saudi Arabia to offer pray for the healing of President Muhammadu Buhari while performing lesser hajj. The cleric,s who were selected across the state, were  also expected to pray for sustainable peace, unity and socio-economic prosperity of Nigeria.

JAMB cancels results for 59,698 UTME candidates

   

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has officially cancelled the results of 59,698 candidates over examination malpractices.

   JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this  at a news conference of an enlarged meeting with external examiners and other stakeholders in the conduct of the 2017 UTME yesterday in Abuja.
