Presidential Election Petition Tribunal today commence hearing in the petitions filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his party, the PDP and three other political parties and their presidential candidates against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
(LOCAL) Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Onnoghen’s Trial In CCT
The National Industrial Court, Abuja, has dismissed the suit opposing the trial of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Peter Abang, the claimant who is also a lawyer, had instituted the suit challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT in prosecuting Onnoghen. At the resumed sitting of the suit on Tuesday, slated for hearing of pending applications, the counsel to the claimant, Mr Kingsley Ewurum informed the court that he had filed notice of discontinuance of the suit.
(LOCAL) Housewife Faint After Death Sentence Pronouncement
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced a housewife, Stella Gilbert to death for killing her neighbor, Stella Godwin, over a bench. After the pronouncement of the death sentence, she collapsed in court.
The incident happened on June 22, 2013, on Ojora Street in the Ajegunle area of Lagos. According to Punch ,the duo were said to have fought for a bench left behind by a neighbour who moved out of their residence. It was gathered that Gilbert was upset that Godwin gave the bench to a visitor to sit without taking permission from her.
