(LOCAL) Senate Confirms Emefiele’s Reappointment For Second Term

 

   The Senate has confirmed Mr Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for a second term of five years. This followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions presented by Senator Rafiu Adebayo during Thursday’s plenary.

  In his remarks, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, urged the CBN governor to use his second term to improve Nigeria’s economy. He said, “On behalf of the Senate, let me congratulate the Governor of the Central Bank, Mr Godwin Emefiele on the renewal of his appointment.”

(LOCAL) Securities And Exchange Commission Warns Nigerians Against New Ponzi Scheme Called LOOM

 

   The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has warned Nigerians against fraudsters currently running an online investment scheme tagged “Loom Money Nigeria’’ Acting Director-General of the commission, Ms. Mary Uduk, gave the warning at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.

  A statement by SEC’s Head of Media, Mrs Efe Ebelo, said that Uduk, who was represented by acting Executive Commissioner, Operations of SEC, Mr. Isyaku Tilde, said Loom Money Nigeria had taken over the social media. She said that the scheme targeted young people, luring them to participate in a pyramid model of the Ponzi. The director-general disclosed that the fraudsters carried out their illegitimate activities via social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp.

(LOCAL) Police Arrest 93 Kidnap Suspects And Recover Weapons

 

   Frank Mba, the police spokesman, says 93 suspects have been arrested for kidnapping and recovered dangerous weapons from them.

   In a statement released on Thursday, Mba said officers attached to Operation Puff Adder arrested the suspects from different locations in the north-central, north-western and north-eastern parts of the country. The police spokesman said the force will carry out investigations to track and uncover the source of arms used by the criminals, identify their collaborators and bring them to justice.

(LOCAL) Corps Members To Earn New Minimum Wage


   Zainab Ahmed, the minister of finance, says National Youth Service Corps members will receive the new minimum wage as allowance. Speaking on Thursday while intimating the press on the activities of her ministry, Ahmed said the federal government is working out the modalities of the new minimum wage.
