Emir of Rano reportedly rushed to hospital in critical condition

 

  One of the emirs of the newly created emirates in Kano, the Emir of Rano, Dr Tafida Abubakar Ila ll, was allegedly taken to a hospital yesterday, May 1, over an illness.

We Are Set To Increase Our Health Budget To About 18% – Sanwo-Olu


    The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the state is making plans to increase its budget for health from the current 12% to about 18 to 20 per cent.

   He said this on Saturday during a discussion about the state of the nation on a special edition of The Platform, as the world battles the COVID-19. “Part of the things that we have started doing this year is to see how we increase our budgetary allocation on the health sector,” the governor said.

Nigeria Hasn’t Paid Sufficient Attention To Building Diagnostic Infrastructure

   One of the biggest challenges confronting Nigeria’s war against the COVID-19 pandemic is the limited diagnostic infrastructure in the country, according to the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.

   The NCDC boss attributed the challenge to decades of neglect. Dr. Ihekweazu stated this during his appearance on The Platform on Saturday. He was responding to a question, posed by Convener of The Platform, Pastor Poju Oyemade.about what he considered the most difficult challenge in managing the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Customs rejects 1,800 bags of rice returned by Oyo

 

   A drama played out between the officials of the Oyo State Government and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, Ibadan, on Wednesday as the Customs rejected the 1,800 bags of rice donated to the state by the Federal Government.

   The officials of the Oyo State Government, led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Jacob Ojemuyiwa, were denied entry at the main gate of the NIS zonal headquarters in Ibadan.  Recall that Dr Debo Akande, a Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde, on Friday alleged that the rice was not good for human consumption.

Experimental drug, Remdesivir proves effective against Coronavirus



 
   An experimental drug, Remdesvir, has proved effective against the new Coronavirus in a major study done by the National Institutes of Health, the US Government have announced .

   White House health advisor and top US infectious diseases expert, Dr Anthony Fauci has revealed that data collected from the Coronavirus drug trial testing with the antiviral drug Remdesivir showed 'quite good news' and has set a new standard of care for COVID-19 patients.

   According to the study led by the US National Institute of Health, the drug shortens the time it takes for patients to recover by four days on average, and it is the first drug treatment to pass such a strict test against the virus. Remdesivir, produced by Gilead Sciences was tested in 1,063 hospitalized Coronavirus patients around the world and according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the drug reduced the time it takes patients to recover by 31%, 11 days on average versus 15 days for those just given usual care.
