Air Force Wings Six New Helicopter Pilots After UK Training

   


The Nigerian Air Force on Friday winged six new helicopter pilots who recently completed their basic flying training at Draken Helicopter Academy in the United Kingdom. This is according to a statement signed by air force spokesperson Edward Gabkwet.

    In his remark during the winging ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao reiterated the importance of the human factor as the most critical airpower component that must be enhanced and sustained for effective and efficient performance, the statement said.

   “This, according to the CAS, gave reason for the increase in manpower development witnessed in the NAF in recent times,” the statement added.

Russia passenger plane goes missing in Siberia


   

    A Russian Antonov An-28 passenger plane carrying up to 17 people has gone missing in Siberia outside the city of Tomsk. This is the second similar incident this month.

  According to the regions governor, two helicopters had been dispatched to search for the plane, which was flying from the town of Kedrovy in the region to the city of Tomsk.

Kidnapped 12-year-old boy discovered inside coffin covered with white cloth in Kwara

   


   Security operatives in Kwara State have rescued a 12-year-old boy suspected to be a kidnap victim. The boy was rescued by the joint border patrol of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Police.  

  It was gathered that the victim was discovered inside a coffin covered with a white cloth in a vehicle by his abductors on Friday, July 16.  Spokesman of the NSCDC in the Kwara State command, Zaid Babawale, who confirmed the incident said the operatives of the lmmigration Service, who were on a routine border patrol spotted an unmarked vehicle and stopped the driver who later took to his heel on sighting the officers, leaving the car. 

Reps Pass Electoral Act Amendment Bill After Opposition Lawmakers Walk Out

   



   The House of Representatives has passed the Electoral Amendment Bill, moments after opposition lawmakers walked out of the heated session at the National Assembly chambers in Abuja on Friday. 

   Nigeria’s lower chamber passed the bill after a clause-by-clause consideration. The house passed the majority of the 158 clauses of the bill intact including Clause 52 (2), which had led to controversy and debate. The clause provides that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shall determine the mode of voting/transmission of election results.
