Fernandez Jose Fernandez, a two-time All Star, died after a 3.30am boating crash Sunday.The 32-foot boat struck Miami Beach rocks 'at high speed' and overturned.
The Cuban-born 24-year-old was confirmed dead after Miami-Dade Fire Department were called out to a boat that had overturned onto Miami Beach rocks 3.30am Sunday. Even more tragically, the two-time All Star's shocking death came just five days after he posted a photograph on Instagram suggesting that he was about to become a father.
The boat was not owned by Fernandez and he was not driving it Fernandez's girlfriend, Carla Mendoza, was not on the boat.Five days ago he posted a photo of Mendoza on with hashtag '#familyfirst'
He defected from Cuba aged 15 in 2007 and turned pro in 2013. Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves has been cancelled
