Development Bank of Nigeria applies for CBN Licence

Federal Ministry of Finance has applied to the Central Bank of Nigeria, for the operational licence of the Development Bank of Nigeria.

A statement by the Director of Information in the ministry, SalisuNa’Inna, confirmed that the recruitment exercise for the Executive Management team of the bank has been completed.
The Development Bank of Nigeria will have access to $1.3billion, which has been jointly provided by the World Bank, German Development Bank, the African Development Bank and the French Development Agency.
According to the ministry, the operations of the Development Bank of Nigeria will not in any way, result in the elimination of the Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture or any other existing development bank, as it will support small businesses defined by size and not by sectors.
The ministry also expressed optimism that influx of additional capital from the Development Bank of Nigeria will lower borrowing rates.
