Seven Governors To Meet Buhari today

Seven governors will meet with President Mohammadu Buhari in London on Wednesday, more than 80 days after he left the country for medical attention.

Media aides to the President, Femi Adesina and Shehu Garba, told State House correspondents that the governors would meet with President Buhari by 3pm and hold a series of discussions with him. According to them, the seven governors were selected by the Nigerian Governors Forum to make the visit.

Those making the trip include the governors of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; Ebonyi State, David Umahi; Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, and Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel. The other governors   are Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Kashim Shettima of Borno State. The governors will be led on the visit by Governor Yari, who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.

This comes after leaders of the All Progressives Congress and some governors, including Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, met with the President in London. Okorocha had been quoted in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, as saying that the President was very cheerful and has not lost any bit of his sense of humour. The Imo State governor, who is also the chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, added that the party delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch.

He said the President was delighted to receive the delegation and asked each governor about affairs in his state. He also asked the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, about the state of the railways. More than two months after President Buhari left the country, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, on July 11, visited him in London. Details of the meeting which was said to have lasted for an hour has not been made known.
