Director commits suicide in Kogi

A 54-year-old director with the Kogi State Teaching Service Commission identified as Edward Soje committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree in Lokoja, the state capital.

Daily Trust on Sunday learnt that the remains of the civil servant were found dangling on a tree behind the mammy market at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks in Lokoja. It was learnt from family sources that the deceased civil servant prior to the incident had been facing some financial challenges.

The incident was said to have occurred barely 10 days after the director’s wife of 17 years, who had been childless gave birth to a set of triplets in a private hospital in Abuja.
He was also said to have left a suicide note for the woman who also works in one of the federal government ministries.

When contacted, spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, Williams Aya, said the body was found at about 5:55 pm. Aya said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Area ‘D’ Division received information about the incident from the military intelligence office in the barracks.
