Police arrest Girl, 20 who faked her own kidnap with boyfriend

 

   A 20-year-old lady, Toheebat Adebayo, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly arranging her kidnap in connivance with her 30-year-old boyfriend, Afolabi Ogunremi.

   After the sudden disappearance of their daughter on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, Adebayo’s parents had reported at the Lafenwa Police Station, Abeokuta that the lady left home for the Lafenwa Market, but did not return.

   The parents reportedly told policemen that they were called on the telephone by an unidentified man who demanded N200,000 as ransom for their daughter. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said the Divisional Police Officer, Lafenwa Division, Kayode Ayilara, led other policemen to track the telephone line of the “so-called kidnapper.”

    It was gathered that the search took them to a house inside Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where Adebayo was kept. The discovery led to the arrest of her boyfriend, Ogunremi, who was also the security man in the house. Ogunremi was said to have confessed to the police that they both arranged the kidnap to raise money for her (Adebayo) birthday. Oyeyemi said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.”
