U.S. Republican Congressman Tim Murphy has announced his resignation after his affair with a young woman came to light, official statement said on Friday. “Upon further discussion with my family, I have made the decision to resign my position,’’ Murphy, an eight-term member of the House of Representatives, serving since 2003, said.
Government to spend $16b for Warri, Bonny deep seaports, others, says Amaechi
The Federal Government needs $16 billion to build deep seaports in Warri, Delta State and Bonny in Rivers State, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, said yesterday. He also hinted that more coaches and locomotives to boost rail transportation across the country would be brought it between now and December.
Ohanaeze: Igbo should forget Biafra
The Southeast should forget the agitation for Biafra, Ohanaeze Ndigbo said yesterday. The Igbo should work towards the restructuring of Nigeria, their apex socio-cultural organisation said. “We should forget Biafra and insist on restructuring. There is no Igbo person that is happy with the situation of things in Nigeria. We must seek peaceful ways of resolving the issues,” Ohanaeze President John Nwodo said.
NNPC in non-remittance controversy from $231.8m lodgements in 5 banks
Barely 48 hours after the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu alleged several under-hand dealings of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, the national oil company is in the news again over alleged unremitted $793.2 million belonging to the Federal Government. According to reports, the current NNPC management had stashed the money in different commercial banks instead of remitting same to the Treasury Single Account (TSA) as required by law.
