I remain a PDP member – Donald Duke

Donald Duke of Cross River State, has emphasized that the Coalition for Nigeria Movement being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is not a political party.
He said he remained a member of the PDP, adding that the Obasanjo coalition had members cutting across many political parties.

Duke spoke in Lagos during a public lecture organized by the Nigeria Movement for Positive Change (NPMC), where various speakers and public commentators charged Nigerians irrespective of religious, tribal and political leanings to be actively involved in choosing the next set of Nigerian leaders.

The former governor said the coalition was only concerned with sensitizing Nigerians to rise up to the challenges facing the country, stressing that something urgent must be done to avoid a situation where Nigeria would be a nuisance to other parts of the world. “Nigeria is like a dam, if that dam should burst it would flood all of West Africa. Our population is more than half of West Africa and it is growing astronomically but our economic indices are not growing as fast which is the challenge we have,” he said.

“As I speak to you, over three million people have registered with the coalition but it is not a political party. I am still a member of the PDP for instance and you can belong to any political party. All it is trying to do is similar to what NMPC is doing here to sensitize Nigerians to our present circumstance,” he said. President of NMPC, Mr, Niyi Aborisade said the movement, which was non-political, was to serve as check on the government, saying the way the country was being run “is not fair to the citizens.”
