(LOCAL) Federal Capital Territory Administration Approves 35 New Private Schools

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the department of quality assurance (DQA) has given approvals to 35 new private schools to operate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The director of DQA, Malam  Salisu  Yahaya, who disclosed this to newsmen in his office yesterday, said that the schools were given the approvals this year, after necessary vetting.

Yahaya, however, stated that the department would continue to check the proliferation of illegal private schools, as well as schools that fail to adhere to the laid down guidelines, within the territory. He noted that many school owners had started the registration process of their schools, but are yet to complete the conditions that would pave way for full approval, while others lacked the desired facilities to commence operations.

“Schools that fail to meet up with the standards will not be allowed to operate. Some have indicated interest but could not complete. So, such a school cannot be given approval since the requirements have not been met. The department has developed a special school instrument in the last one year to ensure that there is standard.”
