Woman touched by plight of homeless 67 years old man she met in coffee shop gives him a bed until he can find a place of his own

A woman so touched by the plight of a homeless man has taken him under her wing and given him a bed until he can find a place of his own.

Kind-hearted Bridie Sawyer, 31, met George Dickson, 67, in a coffee shop and said he looked like the 'saddest man in the world'. And after hearing of his situation, she has now taken it upon herself to raise fund to find him a permanent home.

She has set up a cosy bed for him in her garage until she raises the cash to get him on his feet, reports Chronicle Live. George had been placed in a hostel in Newcastle, but decided to head north where he could feel safer.  But it meant he was living on the streets - which broke Bridie's heart and their friendship grew.

So moved by his story, she set up the “Get George A Home” GoFundMe page and set her target for £800. But now the amount raised has shot passed that and the caring community has raised almost £1,500. Bridie, from South Northumberland, wrote on her page: “George is a homeless gentleman I met in Costa a few weeks ago. I noticed him because he looked like the saddest man in the world.

“I spoke to George and found out he was homeless. "He told me he had come up to Northumberland after leaving the Newcastle area due to anti-social behaviour, threats from others and generally feeling very vulnerable where he had been placed.

“At 67 I can’t imagine how awful that must have been. “I continued to see George on and off and the need to help him grew. One night I saw him trying to sleep in a cafe doorway and I asked him if he would like somewhere to stay and he’s been with us since. "George isn’t in the best health and should not be sleeping on the streets now or ever.
