Fubara warns police against restoring SARS in Rivers

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has warned the police against restoring the disbanded Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State.

Some media users have been alleging profiling and indiscriminate arrests after sightings of police officers operating like SARS in Port Harcourt and other areas.

Fubara raised the issue on Friday at the Government House during a meeting with the new Commissioner of Police, Nwoyi Polycarp Emeka.

The governor urged the commissioner to investigate the complaints and halt any form of harassment of law-abiding individuals. “The importance of security is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders. We urge you to get to the bottom of complaints from citizens,” he said.

Fubara assured of his administration’s commitment to sustain support for security agencies to safeguard lives and property. The governor further charged the CP to be firm, forthright and tackle crimes and criminality with his wealth of experience.
