How Ajimobi awarded dubious contracts, padded budget – Makinde

 

   Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde on December 21, 2019 painted a gory picture of the alleged corrupt practices that characterised the administration of his predecessor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the management of the affairs of the state.

   Makinde stated that the era of the immediate past administration was characterised by corruption, budget padding, mismanagement of funds, kickback syndrome, inflation of contracts’ fees, lop-sidedness in projects management, award of contracts only to their cronies and re-awarding of projects at double price, among others.

Bid to strip Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of their royal titles fails

 

    A campaign to try and strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has failed. Angry residents in Sussex signed a petition to have their royal names changed and it was backed by 3,800 people.

  The titles were given to the couple by The Queen after they got married in Windsor, Berks in May last year. The petition was led by anti-monarchist campaigner Charles Ross who said the decision to give them the titles was "morally wrong" and "disrespectful."

  He also said it was "entirely non-democratic" and a "'symbol of oppression by the wealthy elite." However, last night Brighton and Hove City councillors - who had to discuss the motion at a council meeting - rejected it.

Senate suspends plenary over colleague’s death till friday

 

  The Senate on Thursday, officially announced the demise of Chairman, Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity, Sen. Ben Uwajumogu and subsequently suspended plenary in his honour to Friday.

   This followed a motion by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi during plenary and subsequent Senate resolution suspend Rule 13 of the Senate in order to conclude and finish businesses before the legislators embark on Christmas and New Year break.

  “Going by our tradition, I move that a minute silence be observed in honour of the deceased,” Abdullahi moved. While raising Point of Order ’43’, Abdullahi said that the late Uwajumogu who represented Imo North Senatorial District, died at 51.

President Trump impeached by House of Representatives

  President Donald J Trump has made history as the third American president to be impeached in 151 years. America’s 45th president was impeached by the House of Representatives on Wednesday evening, December 18, 2019 based on two articles of impeachment brought against him.


 The Democratic-controlled House Judiciary Committee approved two charges against Trump last week. The first charge borders on abuse of power.

Missing baby not exhumed from Akure church- Ondo state police command



    The Ondo State Police Command has shut down rumors that the body of missing one year old Gold Kolawole, was exhumed from the Sotitobire Miracle Church in Akure, the state capital.

   Some irate youths in the state capital stormed the church premises this morning and set it on fire following rumors that the body of Kolawole who went missing in the church in November, was exhumed from the altar. In a statement released this afternoon, spokesperson of the state police command, Femi Joseph said the rumor is untrue. Read the statement below:

Imo Senator, Benjamin Uwajumogu slump and dies

 

   The Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, Benjamin Uwajumogu has died. According to reports, Uwajumogu slumped in his house while taking his bath. He was rushed to a private hospital in Apo, Abuja where he was confirmed dead.
