Music legend, Kenny Rogers passes away at 81



  American country music legend Kenny Rogers has died aged 81. A family representative said he "passed away peacefully at home from natural causes". Rogers topped pop and country charts during the 1970s and 1980s, and won three Grammy awards.

Okada riders burn FRSC office over rumoured death of motorcyclist

 

   There was chaos on Friday in Minna, Niger State, when angry commercial okada riders burnt down the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps . The okada riders were angry over the death of one of their colleagues allegedly caused by some FRSC officials.

   It was learnt that the late motorcyclist rode against traffic along the GRA in the state and in a bid to arrest him, the FRSC officials on patrol opened their vehicle door to block his motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said the rider crashed the motorcycle in the process and hit his head on the pavement, leading to a serious injury. He was said to have been rushed to a hospital where he died.

Four new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Lagos

 

  Four new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Lagos. Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, disclosed this in a chat with reporters.

Man Who Murdered Abuja Based Lawyer In Lagos Hotel Arrested

 

   Police Inspector, John Babalola, on Wednesday narrated to an Ikeja Special Offences Court how a lodger; Joshua Usulor, who allegedly murdered a lawyer at the Citiheights Hotel, Opebi, Lagos, was caught by authorities.

  Babalola testified as a prosecution witness in the trial of Usulor, a 21-year-old chef.Equally important, Usulor was accused of murdering Mrs Feyisayo Obot, an Abuja-based mother of two; who was also a lodger at the hotel.

The witness, who was the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) of the case; was led in evidence by lead state prosecutor, Mr Olakunle Ligali. He told the court that, on January 31, 2019; a case of murder was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Panti; from the Area F Police Division, Ikeja Lagos.

He said after he received the statements of witnesses and filled the Coroner Form for the performance of an autopsy; he and members of his team visited the crime scene. “Photographs were taken at the scene. We demanded the CCTV footage to know what took place on January 26, 2019. The management of the hotel took us to a room where we watched the footage.

Coronavirus- Buhari addresses threats to Coronavirus on Nigeria’s economy

 

   President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday directed a repositioning of the economy, starting with a review of 2020 budget to reflect realities in oil sector, and prioritizing health sector infrastructure to respond to the threats posed by Coronavirus.

      Buhari gave the directive after the 2nd Regular Meeting of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja and was contained in a statement signed and sent to DAILY POST by its spokesperson, Garba Shehu. The president recommended securitization of government debt, design and institutionalization of a revenue stabilization program and the imperative of cutting the cost of governance at all levels.
