Official number plates of government owned vehicles and re-issuance of new ones cancelled in Lagos state

Giving the order for the cancellation, Lagos State Governor, AkinwunmiAmbode, further directed forfeiture of official number plates being used by retired staff, even as he also banned all local government officials from engaging in traffic duties.

Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince AnofiuElegushi, told newsmen that there had been complaints about the role of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas officials in traffic enforcement, saying that it is not a responsibility for the third tier of government.
He also reiterated that only the Nigerian police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Taskforce on Special Offences and the Rapid Response Squad can perform traffic duties.
To ensure enforcement of the new order, officials of the ministry will monitor and deal with any infractionin full compliance with the law.
