TOPIC: Don’t Be A Miserable Comforter (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 14 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Job 2:11-13

Bible In One Year: Genesis 33-35; Matthew 10:1-20

MEMORY VERSE: “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” – Matthew 7:1

The MESSAGE:
The Bible calls Job’s friends miserable comforters. What is the reason for this uncomplimentary description? Though Job’s friends spent time with him during his trials and travails, they did very little or nothing to solve his problem or alleviate his pain. Job’s friends discussed, analysed and even gossiped about the possible causes of Job’s affliction. None of them prayed for him in his closet, neither did they gather to intercede for him corporately. Another reason Job’s friends were described as miserable comforters is that while God could flaunt Job’s credentials as the most righteous person on earth, even to the devil, Job’s friends kept attributing his ordeals to sin. Beloved, it is not every trial, affliction or persecution a believer faces that is due to sin. Job’s sickness and trials as well as Zechariah’s and Elizabeth’s childlessness, the apostles’ persecution are good cases in point. Job’s friends earned the uncomplimentary remark “miserable comforters” because rather than truly comfort Job and seek permanent solution to his travails, they only engaged in worthless blame game, roundtable discussion and gossiping. All these added no value to Job’s life nor improved his condition.

Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

Text: Luke 2:8-20

   In another instance, Jesus said He did not come to send peace on the earth, but a sword. Then He prophesied that those who received Him would experience persecution, even from their own family (Mt. 10:34-36). How do these verses fit together?

Memorise: “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”- Matthew 28:20

Read: John 16:5-13 (KJV)

5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
