FG begins cash transfer to 200,000 Nigerians

   


    200,000 Nigerians are set to receive cash from the Federal Government. The beneficiaries are urban poor senior citizens that do not have access to regular income and are impacted by COVID-19.

Bill and Melinda Gates are now officially divorced

   


   Bill and Melinda Gates are now officially divorced after a 27-year marriage. The divorce between the wealthy pair, who are the co-founders of one of the world’s largest private charitable foundations, was finalized on Monday August 2nd, a court document showed.

   Melinda French Gates’ petition for divorce, filed to the court on May 3, stated that the couple’s relationship was “irretrievably broken.” The divorce paperwork finalized on Monday said that she would not be changing her name and did not offer any spousal support, which French Gates said was not necessary in her original filing.

Couple arrested in Warri for allegedly staging daughter's kidnap to repay bank loan

   


   Delta State Police Command has reportedly arrested a couple for allegedlly staging the kidnap of their 21-year-old daughter, Stephine Solomon Oghenevoke.  Recall that the young woman was declared missing after she left for work at Okumagba Estate in Warri, on July 19, 2021, and never returned.

    According to Punch , the parents were arrested on Sunday night, August 1, after the police operatives who had been monitoring the incident received intelligence reports that the parents had allegedly staged their daughter’s abduction.

Tokyo Olympics: Ese Brume Wins Nigeria’s First Medal

   



    Long jumper Ese Brume has won Nigeria’s first medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Brume, 25, claimed the bronze medal in the women’s long jump at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on Tuesday. She achieved the feat with a 6.97m jump, two days after she qualified for the finals with a jump of 6.76m.

32 COVID-19 Delta Variant Cases Confirmed In Four States, FCT – NCDC

   



   Thirty-two Delta variant cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in five states across the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.

   The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, spoke about this during the resumed briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee on Monday in Abuja. Nineteen of the cases were reported in Akwa Ibom State.
