Chelsea finally complete signing of top-rated star Hakim Ziyech

 

   Chelsea have agreed to terms with Dutch champions Ajax over the signing of Morrocan midfielder Hakim Ziyech for a fee reported to be £45 million. A statement by Ajax on their official Twitter page suggested that Ziyech will be moving to Stamford Bridge in the next summer, ending reports linking him to other top clubs in Europe.

Court Grants Agba Jalingo N10m Bail

 

  The Federal High Court, sitting in Calabar, has granted bail to the detained Nigerian journalist, Agba Jalingo.

Policeman crushed by truck in Imo State



  A policeman was crushed to death by a speeding truck along Owerri-Okigwe expressway in Imo State on Wednesday February 12.  The deceased who was identified as Paul Nwachukwu, was attached to silver highway patrol team operating within the Atta area of Ikeduru local government area of the state.

Olusegun Obasanjo's House In Abeokuta Gutted By Fire

 

  Former president Olusegun Obasanjo's house in Abeokuta was gutted by fire on Wednesday. The fire incident was reportedly caused by a power surge in the late hours of Wednesday, February 12. The state's fire service confirmed the incident, noting that the fire only affected the store and not the main building.

Sowore re-arraigned for treason

 

 The Federal Government of Nigeria has re-arraigned activist and convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, on a fresh two-count charge of treasonable felony. At the court on Thursday, Aminu Alilu, the prosecution counsel, asked that the previous seven-count charge, which was filed in September 2019, be substituted with the amended charge.

Supreme Court nullifies Lyon’s election, declares PDP winner

 

  The Supreme Court on Thursday nullified the election of Bayelsa State governor-elect, David Lyon and his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, who were already preparing to be inaugurated into office.

   A five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the All Progressives Congress’ candidates as the winners of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.

Tokyo 2020: Liverpool and Egypt set to clash over Salah



  Mohamed Salah's potential involvement at Tokyo 2020 will be a decision for the player and his club Liverpool, says Egypt coach Shawky Gharib. The forward, 27, is on Egypt's provisional 50-man list for the football tournament, which will hold its final on 8 August - the first day of the 2020-21 Premier League season.

  "We cannot force Salah to participate with us," Gharib told Reuters. The tournament is for under-23 teams but three over-age players are allowed. Fifa has previously acknowledged that clubs are not obliged to release over-age players for the Tokyo Olympics. Gharib added: "Salah's participation with the Pharaohs team is a decision to be taken only by Salah, his club Liverpool and his coach Jurgen Klopp.
