Bill on community policing pass second reading in Senate

A bill to adopt community policing into the constitution scaled second reading in the Senate on Thursday. The bill, which was first read last November, seeks to repeal the Nigeria Police Act Cap P19 Laws of the Federation, 2004 and to enact the Nigeria Police Act, 2019.

The same bill was introduced in the eighth Senate but could not complete the legislative process before the last Senate was dissolved. Reintroduced again, with adjustments from the last version, the legislation seeks to shift from the traditional police system to a community-participatory policing, where citizens in their respective communities are brought closer to the police in the prevention, detection and resolving of crimes. This aside, if signed into law, the tenure of the office of inspector-general of police would be upped to five years.

Open Heaven for Today 15 February 2020 – Questioning God? 2

Open Heaven for Today 15 February 2020: [Saturday] – Questioning God?
Memorise: Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? Or thy work, He hath no hands? Isaiah 45:9
Read: John 11:20-33 (KJV)
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.

Luke 4:19, “To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Text: Luke 4:16-30

This scripture had been written prophetically by the prophet Isaiah about 650 years prior to this time. It was read in Jewish synagogues thousands of times. But the one this verse was speaking of had never spoken it before. With this pronouncement, Jesus began the year of Jubilee.

The Year of Jubilee was described in Leviticus 25. It was a year when everyone left their fields unworked and kept a sabbath unto the Lord. The Lord gave the people a miraculous provision the year before this jubilee started that sustained them for three years until their crops could once again be harvested.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you . . . — John 14:27

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Where does peacemaking begin? How can we become peacemakers? Can peace be discovered within ourselves? Freud has told us that peace is but a mental attitude. Cast off our phobias, shed our neuroses, and “bingo!”—we’ll have the coveted peace we long for.

And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet….for this my son…was lost, and is found. – Luke 15:21-22, 24

Prove yourself. In today’s world, that’s what you constantly feel you have to do, right? On the job, among friends, even at home you’re always working to win the approval you need. Working to convince those around you that you deserve the salary, the friendship and even the love they give you.

Is there any escape?

You better believe there is! It’s called grace. Unearned and undeserved favor and acceptance. And there’s only one place you can find it—in the heart of God Himself.
