Atlanta-based Nigerian Fola Abegunde jailed for $15m cyber fraud

 

   US Federal prosecutors have said that an Atlanta Georgia-based Nigerian, Olufolajimi Abegunde has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for his role in an internet fraud scheme that stole an estimated $15m through computer and wire fraud.

Police rescue 108 at another illegal rehabilitation centre

 

   The Kwara State Police Command said it has uncovered another rehabilitation center, Sumuratu Mumeen Arabic Centre, Gaa-Odota Area in Ilorin, where 108 people detained under inhuman condition were rescued.

  The State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun made this known on Thursday in Ilorin while briefing reporters. Mr Egbetokun said the command acted on a tipoff and raided the centre where 103 males and five females were discovered unlawfully detained.

NJC probes 8 judges over misconduct



  National Judicial Council (NJC) has  set up an eight-member committee to investigate eight judicial officers who were the subjects of petitions for alleged misconduct.

   The NJC took the decision to empanel the committee to probe the eight after deliberating on the report of its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee. It had received 35 petitions against 37 judges of federal and state high courts. The remaining petitions were summarily dismissed for lack of merit, being subjudice, concerning administrative matters, or that such petitions were matters for appeal.

Lightning kills cows in Ondo

 

   At least eight cows have been struck dead in Ekan-Ile area of Ikare-Akoko in Ondo state. This comes a month after 36 cows were killed by lightning (pictured) in Ijare community, Ifedore local government area of Ondo state.

FIRS generates N4 trillion in nine months


     The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) collected N4.012 trillion in three quarters (January-September), its Executive Chairman, Tunde Fowler, said on Thursday.

    He told the Senate Committee on Appropriations that the amount is N77.89 billion above the N3.941 trillion collected between January and September 2018. The amount represents 60.77 per cent of FIRS’ N8.8 trillion target for this year. Fowler said he was optimistic that FIRS would do better than the N5.3 trillion it collected last year.
